Call for Entries for the PTA Business Listing

If you need to update your information from the last publication in December or would like to be included for the first time, please send a completed form by Friday, March 19. Environmental Committee Efforts

Recycling Program
The recycling program at Ralston is up and running and going great! We have not heard the exact numbers but the contamination rate is LOW and the recycle bin was full last week. If it had not been for the recycle program, all of that would have ended up in Colorado’s landfills.
Special thanks to Jefferson County Public School leaders for making this program possible. A big thank you to all the teachers and volunteers for making sure the recyclables got in the right bins and the trash stayed out: Maryellen Mullarkey, Jennifer Kjellsen, Sue Schelber, Molly Iskalis, Fred Alig, Karen Lewis, Mona Hart, Lisa Gonzalez, Andrea Stroy, Amy Ikelheimer, Patty Telgener, Rachel Meis, Susan Applegate and Cindy Kelly.

Capri Sun Bag Drive
To add to Ralston’s environmental efforts, the Environmental Committee is holding a “Capri Sun” juice bag drive. We’ll have a collection in May, so start saving your Capri Sun bags. The class that collects the most will get an extra recess and a special treat.
The bags will then be used like box tops to help the school raise money. All money earned will be used for Envirnomental Education. Please note that all bags must be emptied, straws taken out and flattened.

Parent-Teacher Conferences Next Week

Parent-Teacher Conferences are being held through the week next week. Our 6th grade students will be offering babysitting during those times: Monday-Thursday, March 22-25, from 8:00-8:45 a.m. and 3:30-5:30 p.m. A $2 donation is requested.

Theft in Parking Lot

Recently, a staff member’s car was broken into during the school day and valuables taken. The theft was reported to the police. We want everyone aware of it so that we can all watch over our school campus together. In addition, please be careful about leaving valuables in your car.

Parent Seminar with the Brain Balance Center

Dr. Tamara Eslich, owner and Executive Director of the Brain Balance Center of Golden will be speaking at our upcoming parent seminar on April 13 and 27, both at 6:00 p.m. in the Library Media Center. Her discussion will be about the recent research regarding the epidemic of children with neurobehaviroal disorders. She will discuss how to help parents and professionals understand what is going on with so many children with academic, social and behavioral issues, as well as how the Brain Balance Program helps to make corrections in the brain.

The Brain Balance Program is a hemispheric-based program designed to help families with children who have been labeled with ADHD, Dyslexia, Autism, Asperger’s, Tourette’s, learning disabilities or processing disorders. The Brain Balance Program does not rely on drugs, medical procedures or psychotherapy.

Babysitting will be offered by 6th graders for a small donation per child.

Recycling at Ralston

We are looking for volunteers for the first week of our recycling program, March 8-12 , to monitor the cafeteria. Volunteers will be asked to sign up for a 30-minute period between 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. It would be helpful to arrive a few minutes prior to your shift to allow adequate time to sign in at the front office and learn the sorting routine.

Volunteers will stand behind the garbage and recycling bins and help direct the children in correctly sorting their waste. Volunteers will not be responsible for any hands-on sorting — only directing the students to do it correctly. There will be clearly marked lists for sorting available in the cafeteria.

If you are not available for our first week but would like to get involved, the Recycling Pep Rally is coming up on March 5at 2:40 p.m. We’ll also have other environmental efforts at Ralston you can participate in – please contact Susan.

The box tops collection is this Thursday, February 25. Please be sure to send in all of your box tops by then. The class with the most turned in will win a pizza party!

Visit from Dinger

Ralston will host the Colorado Rockies mascot Dinger for a character education assembly on Tuesday, February 16 at 2:00 p.m . The message will include making good choices, respect, and getting involved in your community. Students are encouraged to wear Rockies colors on Tuesday!

Get Your Pictures in For Yearbook

The deadline is rapidly approaching for submitting photos to be considered for the yearbook. Please email photos to Michelle Dos Santos, michelle_3733@comcast.net, along with a brief description, e.g., event and grade. The deadline for submitting photos is next Thursday, February 18.
